If eyelashes are flirting’s best weapons, Adena Strahm may be the ultimate wingwoman. Strahm, 33, is an esthetician with a background in clinical skincare at Downtown’s Studio 33 Salon & Spa, and is a master of Xtreme Eyelash Extensions. She applies 60 to 100 individual, semi-permanent lashes per eye to clients’ eyelids for added length and thickness. The treatment, which starts at $250, takes about two hours. But the time is worth it, fans say: Lashes can be worn indefinitely, then fresh ones are reapplied every couple of weeks. “What sets me apart,” she says, “is that I always consider the health of the eyelashes.”
Favorite tools of the trade
Tweezers—I have to have a pair of needle-nosed Tweezerman tweezers. That’s a must. And the Tweezerman scissors for trimming. Also, I can’t forget my hands, because I can’t do what I do without my hands.
Best Drugstore Find
I’m so not a drugstore shopper, but I like Alba chapstick. It doesn’t have petroleum or all that other stuff in it. At drugstores I also like to grab a good mineral sunscreen.
I just renewed my workout package at Pure Barre. Beauty isn’t just skin deep.
My five-minute makeup routine
I always wear makeup, even if I’m just going to the mailbox. I use Dream Tint from Jane Iredale, followed by their press powder. Then it’s eyeliner, mascara, blush and lip gloss. Plus clear gel to keep my brows in place. Yes, that can all be done in five minutes [laughing].
What I love about my job
I love that every day is different. I don’t do the same services every day. The clients make my day, too. They come happy and leave happier. There is nice satisfaction to having people leave happy.
Perfect night out in Columbus
I’d start with a Ketel One dirty martini, extra dirty. I love to go to M, or any of the Cameron Mitchell restaurants. Then grab a bite to eat: Calamari is my go-to. And if I’m out with friends, I like to go somewhere you can hear each other talk. I like to lounge, like at Eleven. If I’m feeling crazy, I like to go dancing. We always end our perfect night out with a kitchen party at our friends’ house.
Fav way to spoil myself
Shopping for clothes. You can never go wrong with a pair of shoes—they’ll always fit you.
