Capital Style is teaming with several local style experts to transform one deserving woman in each issue this year. Meet Susie Stegner, a wife, mother of three and a first-grade teacher eager to learn some tips and tricks to feeling and looking her best.

Meet Susie Stegner

Age: 47
Neighborhood: Powell
Job: First-grade teacher at Tyler Run Elementary
Family: Husband, Tim; children Jon (21), Nate (18) and Maddie (15)

Her story

Susie is a busy Columbus woman — she’s been teaching first graders for nearly 25 years and raising three kids with her husband of 24 years, high school sweetheart Tim. That hasn’t left much time for Susie to concentrate on her appearance. “I’ve worn my makeup the same way, I don’t fix my hair, and I don’t usually shop,” Stegner says. After giving Susie a beauty and fashion facelift, she was feeling fabulous. “I feel so lucky that I got to do this,” she says. “It has been so fun. Middle-aged first-grade teachers hardly ever get treated like celebrities.”

Hair at J.Bentley

Hair Artist Lindsay Dell had a goal to lighten both Susie’s color and cut, keeping the style bright and blond.

Skin Treatments at Sullivan Centre

Susie had a chemical peel, Intense Pulse Light treatment and Juvederm filler placed underneath her eyes. She also followed a skin regimen using ZO and NIA skincare products to stimulate collagen and repair sun damage.

Makeup at Mukha

Tim Maurer, owner of Mukha Custom Cosmetics and Medi-Spa, gave Susie a smoky eye using wisteria, a new color for summer. Maurer explains that with the smoky look, “the lid becomes the darkest part of the eye, not the crease as usual.”

Clothing from Boho 72

“Susie tends to wear her clothing a little too large, so we’re looking for something to show off her figure,” says Jamie Mollwitz, owner of Boho 72. Her little black dress ($69) and tank ($19) helped accentuate Susie’s figure.

Accessories from Audacious Boutique

With the blank slate of a black dress, Susie added some gold glimmer with a stack of bangle bracelets ($36) and a link necklace and earring set ($36). For a night on the town, she can carry what she needs in the sparkle clutch ($32).

Spa Treatments at Woodhouse Day Spa

Susie received both the Agave Nectar Pedicure and Spritzer Manicure, with a gel polish on her fingernails. She also enjoyed the Seasonal Rest and Renewal Ritual, with a bath, massage and body scrub.
