Columbus Bucket List

25 Things to Do Before Labor Day

By Kristy Eckert

Treat the next few months as your summer vacation—and plan accordingly. Here, in no particular order, are 25 ways to best embrace that blessed sunny stretch in the city we love. Enjoy!

Activities 1-3

1. The Memorial

Join guests from around the world at one of golf’s premier tournaments (and Columbus’ unofficial summer kickoff), hosted by hometown legend Jack Nicklaus. If you haven’t visited Muirfield Village Golf Club to follow your favorite player, party with the city’s elite or people watch, you’re missing out. It’s May 27 to June 2, and weekly badges start at $155.

2. The Zoo at Twilight

Jack Hanna’s animal kingdom has been voted the best zoo in the country—and it keeps getting better. At the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, you’ll find experiences galore, from watching rescued cats perform in a show to petting exotic creatures. Want VIP treatment? Try the Twilight Tour, where you’ll get a golf cart, a guide and light refreshments while you learn. Regular admission is $15 for adults; twilight tours cost $60 per person.

3. Happy Hour at The Wex

Grab a date and slip out of work early to visit Wexner Center for the Arts (above) on a Thursday afternoon. Admission is free after 4 p.m., and you can take an hour-long, guided walking tour most Thursdays at 5. Follow it up with a stroll to Alana’s for food and wine pairings on the patio.
