A (Stiletto-Clad) Walk Back in Time: Khola Waddy-Jones

Khola

We’re taking a little stroll through the past to talk about our favorite fashion moments. Here, we walk with blogger Khola Waddy-Jones, a corporate-America-success-story-turned-fashion-blogger who now blogs about clothing from vintage finds to high-end couture at Khola’s Kloset and runs an online, upscale consignment store called 24Seven Couture.

First time I remember being aware of style: My earliest memory is grandmother's style. She was always dressed to the nines and taught me very early it's better to be overdressed than under. Good advice that I still practice.

First pair of shoes I remember loving: Oddly enough, because I'm not a sneaker girl now, but it was a pair of black and white Nikes with a green swoosh.

The thing I wouldn’t take off as a kid: I had a pair of pink stretch pants with black splashes of paint. (Thank goodness there is no photographic evidence of that!)

Most memorable first-day-of-school outfit: Kindergarten. I had on a plaid skirt with matching vest and a crisp white shirt. Working it at five years old!

Must-have clothing item or style when I was in junior high: Guess jeans. Couldn't live without them.

What I wore in my senior pictures: I decided to go classic for my senior pictures. I seem to have been channeling someone from Nantucket. I wore a white cable knit v-neck sweater with white slim-leg pants. That's the only ensemble I'm speaking about, as the rest involved jeans that were way too high on the waist. Hey—it was 1995!

First piece of clothing or shoes I remember splurging on: First piece was a Louis Vuitton Speedy 35 bag. I remember when it came, I sat it on the sofa and just stared at it. I couldn't believe I finally owned one... or had spent so much on a bag.

Most memorable wedding look: My own. Go big or go home. And I did! My dress had a four-foot train, and I wore a tiara.

Item in my closet I’ve had the longest: A pinstriped suit my grandmother bought me. I still break it out from time to time.

Items I’ve literally worn out: A pair of Nine West sandals that are so comfortable. I've had them reheeled twice and am working on the third.

Items I’ve bought multiples of: Black, long sleeve t-shirts. You can mix them with anything or wear them alone and just accessorize.

Biggest fashion miss (aka: the style moment I wish I could take back): Ouch! I once wore white stirrup pants (yes I know) with black thigh high boots. Not a good look on a girl who’s 5-foot-1 with athletic legs. No, no, no.

Biggest fashion hit (aka: the style moment that made me feel most amazing): My most amazing outfit is really not that amazing in itself, but it’s a can't-fail classic look: Dark slim leg jeans with a black fitted turtleneck, black high-heel ankle booties and a classic watch. You just can't go wrong with this.

All-time most memorable style moment: High school. That's when I really started to find my fashion self!
